CHILDREN'S EYE CARE

CHILDREN'S EYE TESTS

Regular eye examinations allows our optician to monitor the development of your child's vision and spot any potential issue before it becomes a concern. We recommend booking your child in for a sight test no later than their 4th birthday, but earlier if you have any concerns or if there is a history of lazy eye or squint.

We tailor our kids' eye tests so that they are age-appropriate, fun and relaxed.

Problems with vision can mean difficulty during the school day, which can quickly develop into boredom, disruptive behaviour and even a lack of interest in education altogether.

For this reason, it’s important to make sure your child has their eyes tested regularly.

ARE KID'S EYE TESTS FREE?

Children, and those under the age of 19 and in full-time education, get a free NHS sight test and an optical voucher for glasses.

If you have any questions about NHS eligibility, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our team who will be more than happy to help.

CHILDREN'S EYEWEAR

Glasses for kids are not just miniature versions of adults' eyewear. Because their features aren't as developed as an adult's, children's glasses frames are designed specifically to fit.

We stock a fabulous range of children's frames, from bright and colourful, to stylish and modern. They'll be sure to find something that they will love to wear.

Our experienced and friendly team are on hand to offer assistance with choosing and fitting frames and spectacle lenses so that your child will be able to see comfortably and clearly.

MYOPIA CONTROL

Myopia, also known as short-sightedness, can begin in childhood and lead to a dependence on corrective eyewear such as glasses or contact lenses to be able to see clearly.

Martin Wheeler Optometrists offer myopia management options for children, such as contact lenses or spectacle lenses, to help slow the progression of myopia. Eyes with a high degree of myopia are at an increased risk of developing a serious condition like retinal detachment or glaucoma later on in life.

COLORIMETRY

Learn about how the use of colour can help children and young adults who may be struggling with reading and experiencing visual stress.

We offer a colorimetry assessment to explore how colour can help ease the symptoms of visual stress and dyslexia and determine whether precision tinted lenses are recommended.
